The focus of the CDC is not limited to controlling and tracking the prevalence of disease in America.  This credible government agency provides an “A to Z” index of various Health and Safety Topics including but not limited to: Diseases & Conditions, Emergency Preparedness and Response, Environmental Health, Life Stages and Populations, Healthy Living, Injury, Violence and Safety, Traveler’s Health, and Workplace Safety and Health.

The National Institute of Health is one of America’s leading Federal health care research agencies, and is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  NIH strives to provide the latest in current medical discoveries in an effort to improve the health of the nation.  This includes researching methods to prevent diseases, causes, and formulate treatments and hopefully cures for both rare and common diseases.  Significant areas of impact include: child and teen health, men’s/ women’s health, minority health, seniors’ health, and wellness and lifestyle issues.

WebMD is the “GOOGLE” or “Wikipedia” of Human Health topics.

WebMD offers comprehensive, in depth information on Health Conditions, Drugs and Supplements, Healthy Living Tips, Eating and Dieting, Parenting and Pregnancy, Mental Health, and even Health for Pets.

The American Heart Association site provides not only information but a support platform for its visitors.  The AHA includes categories for patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals and researchers.  This site is an excellent resource for those interested in obtaining life-saving information about topics such as CPR and ECC.

 

American Cancer Society www.cancer.org

This site provides invaluable health information related to all types of cancer (treatment and prevention) with specific sections aimed at patients, caregivers, health professionals and cancer survivors.

 

American Lung Association www.lungusa.org

This site provides valuable information about diseases and allergic conditions that affect the lungs. These include asthma, allergies, COPD, lung cancer, and the effects of smoking on the lungs.

The American Diabetes Association is leading the fight against the deadly consequences of diabetes and fighting for those affected by diabetes. The Association funds research to prevent cure and manage diabetes; delivers services to hundreds of communities; provides objective and credible information; and gives voice to those denied their rights because of diabetes. Founded in 1940, the ADA mission is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

This site contains a plethora of information with a Pro-Active approach of defense against diabetes and the effects of the disease for those that are already diagnosed.

ACSM – American College of Sports Medicine www.acsm.org

This resource is largest exercise science organization in the world.  Inquirers should not be thrown off by the word “Sports” as the site does not exclude information that does not pertain to sports.  The ACSM sets the standard in exercise rehabilitation for cardiac patients, and also has established recommendations for physical activity for living a healthy lifestyle.
