Over the course of the last year, I have witnessed first-hand what impact the Healthstat on-site clinic has made on the lives of the employees.  Many individuals have been made aware of their increased risk of chronic diseases. By addressing their conditions, many employees have returned to the clinic to comment how much better they are feeling, what better quality of life they are experiencing and how the knowledge has put them in control of their health. 

I find an overall very positive response from supervisors, employees, and am most surprised at the number of employees with significant health issues who aren't getting outside care but they seem pleased to have this option.  A great example is a young male and his wife who both work here. They were unaware about the husband’s health problems until they came to me. They listened to the health information, he changed his diet, they started exercising and his weight is down 10 lb. No meds, just knowledge, coaching and motivation.  It’s nice to do visits and hear people say they like not spending hours in the doctor’s office and having someone who listens.

After the nurse practitioner conducted a seminar on "Diabetes: What it Means For You", an employee stopped by my office to let me know how informative it was.  She said the nurse practitioner gave her answers to questions she hadn't thought to ask and tested her feet for numbness, which her doctor had never done even though she has been diagnosed as diabetic for some time.

How many times as practitioners have we heard "I didn't have time to come back", "I couldn't get off work" or "I couldn't afford an appointment"? Healthstat eliminates those common barriers.  Employees who perhaps would never seek out healthcare providers are now able to have excellent care provided to them in an easily accessible environment.  Having on-site nurse practitioners in the workplace is a wonderful concept.

I have three patients who had significant hypertension and several patients with hyperlipidemia - all are now well controlled and improved.  I also administered 95 flu vaccines which is about 50% of the employee population.
